Shrimp Buddy

The weakest viral campaign I've ever seen. Long John Silver's Shrimpbuddy.com is a little video of a guy going on a road trip with a man in a shrimp suit. It's about as genuine as Coke's summer road trip commercials with a bunch of teenagers encountering spontaneous poetry reads, and maigc shows.

I loved it!!! Cheesy and obscure....maybe a tad long. But, it was great - RIGHT UP UNTIL THE MOMENT THE GUY EATS THE SHRIMP!!! Bit of a disconnect for me, frankly.

Same for me - I can't say that it inspires me to eat shrimp...

I love the shrimpbuddy! What shrimpbuddy has above the disingenuous Coke spots is that there's actually heart behind it. It's tongue in cheek and it has a sweet charm about it...up until the end of course. Even so, it's a couple of average guys, not supermodel wannabe skater kids doing what a corporation thinks is cool. It's about two guys doing goofy things that goofy guys would do on a trip...again, up until the end. It's made by the target audience for the target audience. Coke made a futile attempt at capturing a summer road trip and instead captured what a company thinks kids do on a roadtrip. If anything shrimpbuddy makes a joke of the Coke spot. Shrimpbuddy is great.

Did you watch the alternate endings at ljspopcornshrimp.com?

Don't slam the shrimpbuddy...it far outweighs the coke ads in sincere marketing

The alternate endings are hilarious! I hear there's outtakes floating around out there.

Genuine? I would guess that most people of average intelligence would recognize that Shrimp Buddy isn't going for "genuine" once they see the 6 foot guy in a shrimp costume pretending he's a real shrimp. It's a spoof, a farce, a parody. And it's damn funny.
