Somehow we need to understand that the "sin taxes" don't sway any of the persons they penalize. That's why the taxes are so profitable for the States they support. If somehow fattening food became taxed, we'd see a dynamic shift toward healthy in fast food restaurants. Wouldn't we?

I don't think we'd see any change in behavior at all. I think people would eat whatever they want. Now if you taxed the restaurant industry on fattening foods...then we'd see a shift in menu selection.

i don't think people should be judged by the way they look or by the way they eat. as long as they have a good self esteem and are healthy leave them alone. i have a sis who's obese, but she eats just the same i do her metabolism is just much slower than mine and she or nobody else deserves to be called fat or made fun of because of that. who are we to judge anyway.

I believe our country needs SOMETHING to fight this obesity epidemic. I am a dietetic student and I realize that some individuals have conditions that may cause them to be overweight or obese. This specific tax would not just be targeted at those individuals. I know many Americans who are of an average weight and they still eat fatty foods. I feel this tax will help America become healthier especially if the profits help to reduce the costs of fresh fruits, vegetables and healthier food choices. You are forgetting the ultimate goal with this "fat tax" -- to improve our present health and to protect our future generations health. Fatty foods can cause serious health problems such as the way smoking, drugs and excessive alcohol can cause health conditions.
