The McDonald's Diet
Check out the article on BlogNoble called “Super Downsize Me”—McDieters Fight Back” … evidently now people are out to prove Morgan Spurlock and his movie “Super-Size Me” wrong. Their battle cry is “personal responsibility,” because people can gain weight by binging on any type of food, not just fast food.
YAY for personal responsibility! The doctor in Soso Whaley’s trailer for Me & Mickey D nails it on the head – the key to losing weight is to burn more calories than you eat. Period.
I would like to put in my two cents, though: a balanced diet is important too. I’ve heard many times over my 26 years that people could lose weight eating only Snickers bars, but that doesn’t mean that they’re getting all of the nutrients that they need. As far as I know, that specific issue has yet to be addressed in this McDonald’s debate.
The given about being the Big Guy in an industry means that they’re going to be attacked by one group or another, no matter what they do. Kudos to McDonald’s for handling the situation with grace by providing us with some healthier options but continuing to stick to what they do best.
What do you think?
I’m gonna go get me a burger…

McD's most certainly do offer a wide variety of choices, and we the consumer have to be smart about the choices we make.
But my child eats out for lunch most days, at school, and he has a McDonald's close to him, also several other fast food establishments, and do you think for one minute that he is going to decide to have a salad one day?
You show me a kid who is going to choose a freshly tossed garden salad over a pile of steaming hot McDonald's French fries and I'll introduce you to a kid who gets his ass beaten stupid by the junior varsity pom pom squad on a daily basis.

My child can go to McDonald's and choose what she feels is beneficial for her without me being there. This comes down to parents being good role models for their children when they make their decisions standing at the counter looking at the menu board. Do you go with this Big Mac everytime, or do you mix in a salad on occassion?

This has come down on parents. Personal responsibility is the best bet to reduce weight. Parents can set a very good example for their child by adopting a helathy lifestyle. Come on go ahead and make an effort.

I just wanted to comment on the above comment from 9/7. He/She suggests that we readers suggest we "stick to the chains that actually attempt to make a healthy product like Chipotle." That's funny to me--because McDonald's owns Chipolte! How about that!

i work at a mcdonalds in michigan and i tried the mcdonalds diet and it made me gain over 35lbs in less than a month. I blaim this on mcdonalds because if it was not for them i would be 35lbs lighter.

When you tried the McDonald's diet, did you look at the nutritional information and formulate a plan? Or did you just start shoving Big Macs and strawberry shakes down your throat?
Why, I bet it was the second answer.

What's wrong with McDonald's putting the choice back on the consumer? If you really wanted to do me a solid, change the odor in the bathroom from vomit solvent to just clean. Forget the menu, I can decide on that myself.

It does not take a genius to prove that stuffing your face with burgers every day of your life will turn you into a fat cow. I have been working at McDonald's for two grueling years and eat the food almost every day, and I've kept the same weight. Maybe that is because that one meal a day is all I eat, and I spend the rest of my time on my feet rushing to keep the customers happy. It just goes to show that if you exercise, you can eat those fat filled burgers everyday and not gain an ounce!

I love how mcdonalds puts people skating and doing other physical activities all over everything. Its really sad. You will never see a remotley overweight person in a mcdonalds ad. Everyone has a different metabolism, I eat 3 or 4 doubles every time i go, I eat constantly, and i've only been 10lbs over weight my entire life. but i got friends who work 12 hours shifts and dont even have time to eat much and weight over 300lbs. You cant blame anyone for that, but its not right to blame them either. Its going to take alot of dedication for these people to lose the weight, and they will have to exercise more and eat even less than normal people just to keep it off.
On Feb 21 at 02:46 PM David said:
I think the biggest problem for overweight people is little things they dont even think about. If you drink sugared drinks like soda and you drink 8 cups a day which is required for human life than thats about 1,000 calories a day, and thats for normal portion drinks, not those giant mcdonalds drinks! no man woman or child requires over 2,000 calories a day unless they are the incredible hulk or somthing. There are other little things like condoments people dont think about, like mayonaise, its 100 calories per table spoon, and thats not a rounded table spoon either! most people use like 3 or 4 on a sandwhich so thats the calories equivilent of an entire dinner in its own! salad dressing is a big no no. if you eat salads and you put dressing on it you might as well be gorging on bacon fat, 1 packet of mcdonalds dressing is about 1,000 calories. stay away from breaded food too, like breaded chicken, the bread aborbs alot of oil so instead of eating one breaded chicken breast you could be eating 2 non breaded and get alot more full.. so stay away from breaded food, dressings, and stick to condoments like mustard and ketchup and if these are all things of your normal diet im sure you'll lose somthing, use artificial sweetners too! there are rumors about how its bad for you but 1,000 less calories for some one overweight a day is definatley worth it! Remember, every 3,500 is a pound of weight!
On Feb 21 at 02:54 PM david said:
8 sugared drinks = 960 calories
x7 days a week = 6720 calories
x4 weeks a month = 26880 calories
so 7.68lbs worth of calories every month just from soda alone!
THATS 92lbs A YEAR!!!!!!!!!
If your food intake is adding up over 2,000 calories a day and your not on a tredmill running like hell than you will gain that 92lbs!!!
On Feb 21 at 11:52 PM said:
ha its true that you can gain that much weight but not everyone is the same with their bmi and such...a person who is bigger can eat more and not gain as much...you need to figure out how much your body burns naturally and then figure out how many calories you should eat...and yes go to the gym I began 2006 weighing 400 and now I am around 355!! run everyday!!!

I went on a diet where I ate McDonalds about once a day and I lost weight. Today I eat McDonalds at least once a day to maintain my weight. As long as you limit you calorie intake per day you can lose weight eating at most any fast food chains including McDonalds. Later.

I am a vegetarian. I rarely eat fast food, but I eat other fattening things. I rarely watch my weight. I am 5'6 and my weight holds steady around 110 lbs. The crazy thing is that I never exercise, and I eat about a quarter of a gallon of icecream every day. Sometimes icecream is all I eat during the day. It just goes to show you that genetics and metabolism has a lot to do with it.

ppl can do wutever they want with themselves but personaly i wouldnt eat fast food all the time. And like all the other ppl said... there is no diet for mcdonalds so dont worry about it!! weel, anywayz.. overweight ppl can just go to the gym and excersize. To keep a balanced weight u just have to keep trck of how much calories u take in and how much youre burning.
thats all!! ;)

i like french fries. i am insanely overweight. i eat mcd's 3 meals per day - always the number 3 with extra cheese and ketchup - supersize da fries 'cause i luv'em. my doctor says i should balance my diet, so i see how long the bag of food will rest on my knee while driving before it finally tips over. i wouldn't say that the average mcd's consumer makes bad food choices - and i also don't think mcd's takes advantage of that. this is all just some crunked out story drummed up by liberal media.
holla.

I work in fast food, and all I know is that if you force yourself to gorge on it three times a day, well, yes, you will gain weight! But you can have it once in awhile and not gain. You also don't HAVE to get the full-out meal deals with EVERYthing. You CAN eat just the burger or have just the fries or whatever you want.

Good for the fast food joints...well...actually, I couldn't care about those joints.
But good for common sense. If you ate brocolli at every meal you might just get a gas problem, so it kind of makes sense that if you eat "bad" every meal...you will suffer for it.
