Warm Delights Fall Short of Name

Last night, I decided to indulge myself and enjoy a warm chocolate treat after tucking the kids in bed. I had been saving one of the new Betty Crocker Warm Delights for days and thought "why not tonight?" After tearing off the outer cardboard sleeve, I was a little disappointed to see the bowl size - definitely smaller than my appetite. And I guess I didn't really know much about the new product (besides being chocolate, what matters in a snack, anyway?) because I found it annoying that I had to open a cake mix pouch, dig out a measuring cup, add water and stir. Now, I'm not as lazy as you might think - but after finally snagging 30 minutes of peace at the end of a long day, I really did not feel like preparing anything, albeit in 3 easy steps. I'd rather grab a spoon and a pint and sit down. Carrying on, I opened the packet of fudge after creating the batter and squeezed it on top, just like the directions said. After waiting one interminably long microwave minute, I grabbed the hot bowl (using the discarded cardboard wrapper as a hot pad) and sank into the easy chair to wait for it to cool off. And I waited. After waiting what felt like forever, I decided to risk a scorched roof of mouth and dug in. My disappointment with this product knows no boundary. The cake itself was a little dry, and still too hot to ingest comfortably, even after a long wait. The finished product didn't take a nice shape in the bowl, forming chunks rather than the ooey-gooey delight depicted on the outer package. And the fudge was less than tasty. While I bought it with a $1.00 off coupon, I won't make the costly mistake of buying another Warm Delight anytime soon. The best thing about this product was the 10 Box Tops for Education points I earned for my daughter's school!

Not everyone feels the same way as Heather. I too had the $1.00 off coupon, for that matter I had two and I used them both on two different flavors. That is what the coupon is for so that you can try the product. I have a son 16 and this was a perfect portion for a after school snack or an after dinner treat while you watch your favorite program. This kept me from making a regular cake and having it sit on the counter for days on end. This was just the right size for each of us. The flavor was great and it didn't take much time at all.We also ended up putting a scoop of ice cream on top while it was still warm.It was a great late evenig snack!!!

I loved the size, ease of preparation and taste of Warm Delights. The small portion was just right for me rather than making family sized dessert to have sitting on the counter calling my name.

I am reminded of a "Saturday Night Live" segment where undesireable people are matched up happily through a dating service. As the two wander off together, the theme song plays..."Lowered Expectations." I think people who are happy with Warm Delights have lowered their expectations for what they are buying. The product is an inferior chocolate goo that is very disappointing if you are expecting something delicious and satisfying. Maybe because it is nuked and convenient I should have expected the almost inedible experience. Instead, I was expecting something delightful. UGH!

I guess there are two kind of people - they that love them and then they that don't - I think they are great! We have tried the brownies and caramal cake - loved them both. And fast and easy.

Warm delights are okay if you are desperate for sugary chocolate. And I mean desperate. Try popping a favorite ready made cookie or brownie in the microwave and experience the same satisfaction at a fraction of the price.

I thought this would be putrid, I usually cant stand anything made in the microwave and was disapointed that there was no oven option. Someone else bought a couple and put them in cubboard, I thought I would give one a try just to see what it was like. After I microwaved it I thought for sure it would be bad tasting, it definately doesnt look good after being cooked. But after letting it cool for 5 minutes (that part is probably very important, dont eat or poke at it before 5 minutes or it wont beable to fully finish whatever it does) I was pleasantly surprised. Its actually quite good and I think it tastes better than regular oven-made cakes from a box. I think the water kind of makes it blander than it has to be though, next time I plan on substituting water with milk to see what kind of results I get.

This dessert was fabulous! I brought it to work with me to have as a snack, and it was easy (other than the fact that I had to measure the water). I would highly recommend this to anybody as a quick and easy fix for a craving.

Ah yes, Betty Crocker "Warm Delights" These things (when i did them) were infact warm. Very warm. I burned myself. But oh no! They were definately not delightful. It looked so warm and goey and tasty on the box. You know the cardboard it comes packed in? I tried the cake thing and then took a big ol bite out of the cardboard. The cake was verrrrrrry slightly better. Not by much though. Also after I tried the "Seething Hot Discusts" I got a fun idea. I wasn't feeling well bacuse the smell got in my brain so I nuked another one for my 26 year old brother so he could taste the discustingness. I accidentally set it for 10 minutes instead of 1. It exploded! It got the inside of my microwave all goey, warm and delightful. The rest of the cake, was not. Then my brother came home. Oh what a surpise! He was home early for some reason and saw the goey mess in the microwave and said to me..."Making lunch for me again?"

I found the dessert by accident while in Walmart one night... And boy am I glad I did... I had the molten chocolate cake and found it to be very delicious and efforless... In 2 minutes I was in my bed eating a warm moist bowl of chocolate cake. If I'm lucky, I'll have more tonight!

Does anyone know who wrote/performed the theme song to the Warm Delights commercial. Does anyone know what the song is called?

In response to the original post, the Molten Cake isn't very good, but I absolutely LOVE the Fudge Brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. If you all who don't like these Warm Delights haven't tried this, please do. It's what gets me through my week!

Thank you for contacting General Mills with your inquiry.

It's a jazz guitar with a female singer.

Song: "Ruby"

"Lowered Expectations" is a sketch from MadTV, not SNL (reference to post/comment above)

anyways, I found Warm Delight ok for a quick sugar fix with nothing else around (for me, that means energy bars that resembled chocolate-coated vitamin pills) but definitely doesn't hold a candle to the desserts they're supposed to resemble. (I could pretty much say the same for any "made from scratch" 2-step cake mix desserts as well.)

I couldn't get the song on the Warm Delights commercial out of my head. I found the CD by Camille on Amazon.com and ordered it.

The song is amazing and Camille's voice IS a warm delight, but the track - Ruby - sounds as though it was recorded on a cassette tape and then added to the CD. At the end of the song there's the unmistakable "hitting the stop button" sound. Disappointing, but I listen to it anyway.

I am in love with these! I have tried the chocolate chip cookie, the chocolate cake, and my fav- the cinnamon. These are just so delicious! And even though they are small, I find myself eating them very slowly and savoring their warm goodness, so just one completely satisfies my sweet tooth for the day!

I tried the carmel one and was not especially satisfied, but later I tried the cinnamon spice one and completely enjoyed it. I had a coupon both times, otherwise it would have cost way to much.

ok lets face it. they are convenient. maybe one does have to lower thier expectations (which is from SNL not mad tv) but perhaps it's your expectations about a microwavable product that could lead you to believe what you tast isn't good. i'd held the same prejudice but when a friend forced me to try one i found myself saying "it's decent" when i really should have said, "i can't believe this is possible". try one yourself and see if you can't forget that it came from a microwave almost instantly. seriously, who has time to bake. and we know what it costs to buy things at a good bakery, and while that might be delightful too its still not warm till you microwave it and thus dry it out a little.

This is an awesome product for what it is marketed for. The unfavorable reviews above make me laugh. First of all, 3 easy steps is an understatement, and the microwaving takes about a minute...what could be easier? Lowered expectations - I don't think so! Try them all!

Apparently some people are trying to score points somewhere by being as critical as possible. Warm Delights is a good product made for those who are looking for single servings and convenience. The flavor is good and, although I have had some trouble getting the cookie version to come out correctly, they are easy to prepare. For those of you who are so critical, remember that you still can make a cake from scratch if you want.......or would that take too long to do or take too long to have it cool?

Sounds like everyone who liked the warm delights prepared them properly; those who did not like them didn't let them sit for the allotted time after cooking, so they complianed of them being too hot and/or tasing bad. Follow instructions, people! And for the original poster who said it was smaller than his/her appetite, were you expecting it to be your full meal or something? I'm a huge dessert fan and I have to say this is pretty much the only store-bought dessert that DOES satisfy me in one portion. I can't believe you'd have a hard time being satisfied on 360 cals of chocolate.

I've gotten varying results with different flavors. The first one I tried was the Cinnamon Swirl Cake; I followed the directions exactly, but I was quite disappointed. I had to take it out of the microwave early because some of the cinnamon sugar mix near the top was starting to caramelize and burn, but there were still large moist spots on the surface of the cake. The taste was decent, but the texture was way off. I guess you have to compromise -- if you cook the cake thoroughly, the cinnamon sugar will caramelize and burn. Later I tried the Hot Fudge Brownie, and it came out perfectly! The taste and the texture were spot-on. In both instances, I followed the directions precisely, used the same microwave, etc., so I assume the problem is with the product. The only thing that might keep me from getting the Hot Fudge Brownie again (or any other flavor) is the trans fat content.

THEY ARE DELICIOUS!!!! omg i love them. you have to FOLLOW the directions or they turn out shitty. how hard is it though??
the best are the brownie, chocolate molten cake and the caramel cake. i'm surprised at how lazy and picky some people are!! lol..oh well, we all have different tastes. but if you haven't tried them, i suggest you do!!

If you can't cook a microwave dish right you probably can't cook

Wow! I love the warm delights, and I can pretty safely say I've tried them all. The least favorite was the lemon cake, which my daughter loved. The cinnamon swirl was great, but of course, my favorites fall on the chocolate side. I find the texture and taste quite "delightful", and I'm particularly happy now with the new smaller mini size. Fewer calories, which helps the waistline, although, regardless of the size I have, I'm always left wanting more!
Of course, I don't mind the mixing and nuking, and squeezing, and smelling them cook either... it's all part of the "delight" of the product!
But I also appreciate one writer's tip of nuking a ready made product to make it warm and delightful... I guess I'll have to try that too!

Okay, so we all know where to find this product right?! ...YES, the "cake mix" isle in the grocery store. No, you won’t find it in the candy/cookie isle or at the checkout counter! So OF COURSE it's going to require a little work! I mean anyone who makes the effort to pick this product up in the isle should know that. If you’re not in the mood to make the effort...forget about it! ...it's not going to taste good because of the attitude "you" have going into it! If you don't wait for it to cool...and follow the instructions (which are put there for a reason I might add) it won't turn out the way it was intended. It's like when I'm working at the restaurant (server) and I always get those customers who come in all ticked off and hungry with a bad attitude. No matter how perfect I take down their order...and put it in the computer...and the cooks prepare their meal to the best of their ability...it always comes out "wrong" or “taste bad” according to the customer. Now the customers that come in with a great friendly attitude always leave happy!! They’re food always comes out perfect and things go smooth for them. A lot of it has to do with “your” attitude going into it. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure I'm gonna LOVE it!!

p.s. Don’t forget to tip your servers; they make $2 an hour! Haha =)

I completely disagree with this review. I LOVE these desserts! I found it to be a very small amount of work for a hot, chocolate-y treat. Considering that you only have to open, add water, and stir, it seems that one would have to be extremely lazy to find this too much work. I have had several flavors, and think the world of all of them. Congrats to Betty Crocker for making individual sized desserts...because we all know at the end of the day, a whole pint of ice cream is NOT what we need!

Wow - I don't know how you can't love these! You don't need a measuring cup or anything fancy, just pour, stir, heat, enjoy. Pretty simple. Don't know why you have chunks in it, I stir mine, and they're always delicious. I will admit, the molten cake isn't quite as good as the brownie, but either way, it's a simple, quick dessert. If you want something bigger, maybe you should bake a cake.
