Peanut Butter Smoothie

Sometimes I like to respond to readers with open comments, and other times I like to respond with small articles. Regular reader, John sent in a comment about smoothies, and since I have seen a lot of energy around this issue I decided to respond with the recipe requested.

"I welcome any non-commercial protien smoothie recipes.
I drink freshly juiced vegetables and fruits daily for vitamins and minerals. (N)ow drinking blended milk, eggs and bannana based smoothies in the morning and sometimes before bed.
I would like to hear of any other bulking-up type recipies without commecial products. Please tell me more about the peanut butter smoothie. Thank you very much."

Peanut Butter Smoothie

Freeze the fruit first to make a thicker, more flavorful smoothie.

Ingredients:

1 banana (peel before freezing)

3 tablespoons peanut butter (chunky or smooth)

2 tablespoons chocolate syrup

3/4 cups milk or soy milk
(add ice for volume)

Directions:

Blend until smooth.

Enjoy!

I make a peanut butter smoothie like your recipe...but use chocolate soy milk instead of chocolate syrup to reduce the sugar. Also I add a tbls of soy powder for extra protien. My son (17) is a powerlifter and loves this for breakfast.

This smoothie is the best. I don't understand the guy with the complaint that a smoothie is with friut. Another great recipe is peanut butter honey sandwhiches. it taste so good i have it everyday! this is the best i am having it right now!

Dude, with the problem with PB... PB is made of peanuts which are high in protein, peanut butter is great when you need additional protein to repair muscle after a good workout. Sounds like a good smoothie, I'll have to try it.

When you buy banana's and don't eat them instead of tossing them or making banana bread. Peel them, break them in thirds and put them in a zip lock bag in your freezer for your smoothies.

Know what's even better? 4-6 strawberries, 1 banana, 2 Tablespoons peanut butter, 1/4-1/2 cup plain yogurt and 8-10 ice cubes. Blend. Its so great!
