My Kind of (Home) Cooking

Some of you may or may not have heard about the latest rage: meal preparation stores. Dream Dinners is the original and most commonly-known name, but there are hundreds of these little stores popping up around the country. Springfield, (MO) USA already has three!

Check out the article on BlogNoble called “Home Cooking Makes a Comeback!”

I’m not much of a fanatic when it comes to cooking, so the last thing I want to do when I get home from work is whip up a full meal. However, my fiancé and I pay a lot of attention of what sort of preservatives and such go into our food, so we really prefer making something ourselves over getting takeout or buying prepackaged, boxed, or canned meals at the store. This puts us in quite a conundrum when it gets to meal time, and I can’t imagine what it’ll be like once kids come along in the (distant) future.

So what do you think? Fad or here-to-stay? Have you been to one of these? It would be great if you could share any experiences you’ve had, how often you attend, etc.

I went to Super Suppers about a month ago. The staff was unorganized and not very knowledgeable about the products being prepared. It was crowded and there was not enough room to work at each station.
And the food is just so-so. I will not go back.

I have been to Dream Dinners in my hometown and it was wall to wall women. Unfortunately, they were all married ladies more interested in feeding their families than hooking up with a single man with a culinary curiousity.

If the meals were smaller, more portionable, then it would be a great concept for people without giant families.

I have been twice recently to a local Dream Dinners store and found both times to be a great experience! The products were fresh and I found many spices available with preparation. The best part was how tasty we have found each meal to be. I will definitely be going again!

Since I have cooked for a family for 53 years and can do it in my sleep the idea sounds strange. Strange that someone would take time to drive some distance and stand in line maybe in a crowded inviroment and make meals out of who knows what kind of ingredients. Why not get a good recipe book and do some planning on the week-end and do it yourself.

Too many young people don't know how to, or wan't to, eat, or cook at home. They are fat and flabby!!
Dream Dinners is their answer. They will learn how to cook, and eat, correctly.
Good-by!!!!!McDonalds!!!!
Hello family dinners, and conversations with the family.
I am old fashioned, but, there is no substitute for home cooking. Your children, and spouse will appreciate, and remember, for the rest of their lives, the experience you are giving them.

I wish to register a complaint on the show about Paula from Georgia. She has been eating out of the pots that she prepares and then puts the spoon back into the pot to take another bite. Who wants to eat after her? This is not a good thing to show on TV.
