Are you drinking less soda?
Soft drink sales are down .2% across the board (including vending machines, retail outlets, and locations with fountain drinks). A measly 2-tenths of one percent, you say? What’s the big deal, you wonder? Well, it’s the first time it’s happened in 20 years. The research indicates that the “Big Beverage” companies are still growing their business, but they’re doing it with sales of water, sports drinks, and other non-carbonated beverages. (For the record- Energy drinks like Red Bull are included in the soft drink numbers, so even with these newer products, soft drink sales are down.)
Experts predict that this trend will continue for the foreseeable future. I want to know what you think about this trend. Are you drinking less soda? Are you choosing beverages for their healthy benefits? Are you just tired of the same old soft drink? Or do you still choose grab your long time favorite anytime you can?

I dont drink nearly as much soft drinks as i used to but will have one every once in a while (one can a week). Instead of buying a case of coke to put in my frig, I buy a case of Beer instead and yes i was born in the 80's. Also I seem to drink a lot more juices and tees also.

I find myself drinking just as much soda at work (Retail) as I always have. However I have not bought any soda to bring home in many months. I drink much more water since I purchased an inexpensive tap mounted water purifier.

I used to drink 2 to 3 fountain sodas a day and now I purchase about one every month! I have, however, about one to two cans of soda at home a week and yet, I never can finish the entire can. I just lost the desire to want one for some reason.

I recently bought Coke on sale, couldn't beat the deal.
At the same time I purchased bottled water at an equally
sweet deal. The water was
Dasani, a Coke product, so the
company still got my money.

I try not to drink soda for health reasons. Instead I drink seltzer water with a natural fruit flavoring, no sugar or sodium. It's much better all around and I still get the fizz kick. It's more refreshing. Otherwise it's plain cold water, tea, or iced tea.

I think that the reason that the soda sales have gone down is the same reason you see Vitamin Water in your local grocery store. People are really trying to get healthy because Vitamin Water used to be sold only in Whole Foods now you see it every where.

I drink e-Water myself, it is healthy clean-tasting refreshment. Search as you might, you will not find another water like this.
Water is life, but not all waters are alive. e-water™ puts Life back into water by blending pure mountain spring water with over 50 ionic electrolytes (including crucial trace minerals) plus unique ingredient fulvic acid, called wujinsan (black gold tonic) in China.

I used to and still do up to this day drink soda before I go to bed. Sometimes I'd get up out of bed and would have this graving to open up the fridge and drink some soda. Somebody even told me some time ago that in one can of soda there is a cup of sugar. I'm really trying to comment myself in drinking more tea afterall I do enjoy making it and to be honest it taste really good. I've notice that pop really doesn't quench my thirst as well as water or tea can. I just think that some people even myself buy soda because it's advertised alot and it has a good appearance meaning that when you see soda commercials on T.V. or when you walk into a grocery store and see all the decorations and designs that there is on both the soda cans and all the soda packs, that is what makes buying soda so tempting I think. For an example, do you remember recently when it said on the Mountain Dew cans.... ''New View Same Dew''. Comments like that could make soda cans and soda packs more tempting to buy then you think.

Soda numbers are being affected by soda machines being taken out of schools. Just like big tobbaco companies, The soda giants have preyed on High Schoolers for years. Not sure if it is coke, or Pepsi, but, One of them is removing all of there machines from schools nation wide.

I use to be a soda pop junkie. I would like to believe that I have learned my lesson. I believe that diet as well as regular soda is dangerous to our health. I do not drink soda at all. Every once in a while I drink 100% orange juice. However, it is better to just eat fresh fruits. I drink plenty of water and feel better for it. I don't know why I ever polluted myself with all of that sugar and diet sugar anyway. Very very foolish indeed. Sugar causes one to age. Sugar also causes obesity. Diet soda is just worthless and gives nothing to the overall health of an individual. If it is man made stay away from it I say. Perhaps america is starting to wake up??? Just my thought on the matter.

It is good to know that more people are drinking water, it is good for you. Just make sure that you know more about where your water comes from. A few years ago U.S News & World Report magazine did an article on Water Scarcity and danger. In the article, they also warned consumer to becareful of the water bottle company claim. Someone I once knew had to examined the water content in the forensic lab for a homicide said she saw microscopic legs and body parts of bugs that cannot be seen from a human eye, it was under a microscope. As for soda, I stop drinking it a long time ago, after I had found out how many restaurant size bags of sugar it takes to make one can of soda. Those small bags of sugars you see inside the holder in a restaurant, they weigh 1 gram, so if a can of soda labeled 42 gram of sugar, how many bags is in that can? Open a can and let it stand for a day so the fizz will disappeared, then try to drink it, pure sugar is all you taste.

I was born in the 60's and love soda. I wake up to a drink of it and go to bed to a drink of it. I probably consume in the gallon to gallon and a half a day quantity. I have a high energy level and must maintain it. It is less harmfull then most things out there. Lets not give soda a bad name.

I used to drink 2 to 3 liters of Diet sodas a day.
I now rarely drink anything carbonated. I found out from my doctor & his nurses that something in the sodas (phosphates?) which makes it carbonated actually nullifies the magnesium I count on having in my system so my needed calcium gets into my bones and overall system. This explains why my calcium level has always been low over the past 12 yrs.

i have stopped drinking soda so i think that has something to do with it. people have found out that it affects your heart and gives you the energy boost you don't need then makes you crash when it wears off. most people don't want to crash so they just keep drinking it so that they don't until they have to go to bed.

Trend?
Check the census. There was a sub-boom of babies born in the 80s now coming of age.
Ergo, soda dips as the now-legal population doesn't have to sneak alcohol.
Add the growth of niche/locally produces soft drinks which almost certainly weren't part of the survey and you've got an easily explainable very slight shaving of sales as a percentage.
