Coca-cola Blāk, the New Brown?
Coca-cola Blāk is the latest beverage developed by Coca-cola. They bill it as “Coke effervescence with coffee essence.” ![]()
The company’s press release boasts, "Coca-Cola Blāk is not just a flavor extension. It is a blend of unique Coke refreshment with the true essence of coffee and has a rich smooth texture and has a coffee-like froth when poured. We believe we have created a new category of soft drink – an adult product in a carbonated beverage – and a whole new drinking experience. This brand is ideal for any part of the day when people are looking for renewed energy or simply to take a break," said Marc Mathieu, vice president, Global Core Brands, The Coca-Cola Company.
At 45 calories per 8 oz serving, it’s considered a mid calorie beverage. The bottle design is amazing, but will the contents live up to the package? Apparently Pepsi previously test marketed a similar product in India called Pepsi CafeChino. Starbuck’s unsuccessfully marketed a coffee-soda product called Mazagran in the mid-1990’s.
Check out the website to see Coca-cola Blāk’s Internet debut http://www.coca-colablak.com/us/index.jsp. Have you tried it (or any of the previous soda/coffee options)? If you haven’t tried it, are you considering it? Or does it sound flat out bizarre?

I liked it. I think it tastes like Vanilla coke with coffee added. (In fact, I may blend some of that up myself, b/c $7.99 for 4 8 oz. Blak's is crazy!!!)

This stuff is awful. Maybe folks that like those energy drinks would like it, but I like EITHER coffee OR Coke, not a blend of the two :P

I thought it tasted more like
chocolate or mocha than like
either coffee or Coke. It didn't taste anything like Coke! Strange, but I can imagine developing a taste for it -- if it were cheaper.

As a youngster, my favorite stop was our local drug store's soda fountain and ordering a "coffee coke." It was "fountain" coffee syrup (dispensed via a manual pump) into a "fountain" coke (soda water manually mixed with coke syrup via a manual pump). CocaCola Blak is as close as I have gotten these days. The coffee syrup you purchase today is not the same as it was back then, and because the coke was manually mixed you could custom taylor your own special blend by asking for specific "squirts" of each syrup.

This stuff is nasty. I like both coffee and coke but the combination is awful. Maybe a cold coffee drink that wasn't carbonated would be much better.

The first time I tried it, I thought it was pretty gross. The second time I tried it, I thought it's still pretty yuck. The third time I tried it, I thought hmm only if it's super icy cold.

I LIKE THE TASTE OF BLAK BUT WHAT HAS ME CONCERNED IF THAT THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS ASPARTME.
MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT AWARE THAT ASPARTAME TURNS TO FORMALDEHYDE IN THE HUMANE SYSTEM. AS YOU KNOW FORMALDEHYDE IS A PRODUCT USED IN EMBALMING FLUID. THIS IS AN UNSAFE PRODUCT BEING MARKETED AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED.

Y'know, I kind of like it. I was a little surprised at that, but it's actually pretty good. It reminded me of something, but I'm not sure what. And unfortunately the bottle was so small, that by the time I got to the end of it, I hadn't yet identified what it reminded me of. (And we only had 1 bottle because I got a sample from the store.)
