Question:
On either November 4 or 5th I caught a part of a show about Diners on Route 66 that are apparently still open. I believe a book has been written but can not find title and do not know author. Can you help me?

Answer:
We can direct you to these diners open on Route 66:

The Ariston Café, Litchfield, IL - http://www.ariston-cafe.com/
The Bagdad Café – no info
The Museum Club, Flagstaff, AZ - http://www.museumclub.com/site/
Route 66 Brewery & Restaurant – no info
Roy’s Café & Motel, Amboy, CA - http://www.rt66roys.com/
66 Diner, Albuquerque, NM - http://66diner.com/

We are not familiar with a book specifically featuring diners of Route 66, but would be interested if you find details. We are aware of the following books that reference Route 66 diners in some small way:

The Ultimate Route 66 Cookbook by Tammy Gales
The Route 66 Traveler’s Guide by Tom Snyder and Bobby Troup
Route 66 by Nick Freeth (also, Traveling Route 66, same author)
Route 66 Lost and Found by Russell Olsen

We are not currently linking for purchase of any of those books, but perhaps the titles will help in your search.

My Web site, Route 66 News, has a listing of notable restaurants on the road:

http://rwarn17588.wordpress.com/restaurants-on-route-66-3/

Alas, Route 66 Restaurant and Brewery went bust in St. Louis last year. Roy's Cafe isn't open because it's undergoing extensive renovations, but may reopen next year sometime.

Ones that I recommend without hesitation:

-- Lou Mitchell's, Chicago
-- Cozy Dog Drive-In, Springfield, Ill.
-- A Slice of Pie, Rolla, Mo.
-- Clanton's Cafe, Vinita, Okla.
-- Hank's Hamburgers, Tulsa
-- Rock Cafe, Stroud, Okla.
-- Midpoint Cafe, Adrian, Texas.
-- Powdrell's BBQ, Albuquerque

I hqve some bakers sugar (expecially fine grain). Can I use it in other recipes besides cake, and if so, do I have to alter the porportions? Does 1/2 cup bakers sugar equal 1/2 regular sugar?

What is the story behind the 'Lady Baltimore Cake'? I know that it has something to do with Dolly Madison. I am planning to make this cake as the beginning of a new tradition for my family at Christmas time.

My husband and I are going on a tour of Europe next year but I am concerned about a severe food allergy I have to Sesame seed and Sesame seed oil.
We are going to London, Paris, Switzerland, northern Italy, Austria, and Germany.
Do you know if Sesame is an ingredient they like to use?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please tell me how to propely cure cast iron pans.

I recently purchased three pans that are used. Once I clean the rust and dirt off them, what is the proper method of curing them. Then, how should they be cleaned and stored after each use?

Hire that young 'Captain D' from Bobby Flay's Throwdown. What a refreshing, happy, sweet young man. What an asset he could be, not to mention his bigger than life smile on television. He's loaded with personality!

We are visiting Columbus, Ohio, this summer for a week in late July, 2007, for a convention. My husband will be looking for interesting places to eat in Columbus (and also things to do during the day). Is Columbus noted for any particular cuisine? Are there any "must do" places? Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thank you.

I have een baking a family cheesecake recipie for 12 years and I recently sold a cheesecake to a gentleman who wants to know if they can be made in very large quantities, and I have heard of a 3 step system that half of the ingredients are made at one location and the other half at a different location and then sent to the bakery so the recipie will not be taken, I have researched online and so far I have not found any system similar. If you can help in any way I would realy appreciate it(or if you might know of a different strategy)I am new at this venture.

Thank You,

Help! My Dad has recently been diagnosed with diabetes. Unfortunately his favorite goodie is a lemon icebox pie made with sweetened condensed milk, lemon juice and lemon zest, then refrigerated. Is there any diabetic substitute for sweetened condensed milk which will congeal into a pie? We really NEED your help! Thanks a million (calories)! Karla
