Holiday Favorites

Looking for a great Christmas morning recipe to go along with your coffee—maybe while the kids open presents? Where better to look than at a Bed & Breakfast! One of our favorites is run by Kay Cameron, who has compiled a cooking called Breakfasts Ozark Style. Here, used with her permission, are a few of our recommendations.

Cheesecake Coffeecake

1/3 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
¼ cup milk
1 ½ cups flour
½ t. baking soda
1 t. baking powder
8 oz. cream cheese
2 eggs, beaten
1 t. vanilla
¾ cup instant oatmeal
¼ t. salt
2 T. orange zest (grated orange rind)

Blend margarine, cream cheese and sugar. Add eggs, milk and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients and add to the cream cheese mixture. Blend in orange rind. Spoon batter into well-greased 8’ baking pan or 12 muffin pans. Add crumb topping:

1/3 cup brown sugar
½ t. cinnamon
1/3 cup flour
2 T. margarine

Sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes for coffeecake, 20 minutes for muffins.

Christmas French Toast

½ cup eggnog
1 T. vegetable oil
4 slices French or Italian bread

Dip both sides of bread in eggnog. Heat oil in heavy skillet. Brown on each side. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serves 2.

Tip: freeze eggnog in ice cube trays. Once frozen, package in plastic bags and store in the freezer to use throughout the year.

The burnt outer portion of a cut of meat is the worst thing you could eat.

I'm looking for Asian Lilkoi and Passion Fruit pre-bottled syrups and didn't see where I could research "food items" on your site. Not sure I am spelling the first sauce correctly either--I use them in salad dressings and can't find them anywhere in the Desert Area..any help would be appreciated!
