Food Channel Choices for Halloween Fun

Our Top Ten Celebration Ideas

OK, folks. It’s time to get serious about Halloween. We’ve checked out hundreds of recipes, ideas and products and now present to you our favorites for celebrating this spookiest of holidays.

  1. Pull out the Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook and make a recipe or two. See our story, here.
  2. Looking for an adult treat this Halloween? The Cocktail Guru, Jonathan Pogash, has come up with some new ideas, along with Van Gogh Vodka - check them out: Van Goghst Punch, Milky Way Martini, Maple Basil Sour, Panamanian Devil, and CORZO Bite.
  3. Halloween candy goes to a new level when it’s See’s. If you want to upscale your Halloween choices, check out the candies in their Boo Box, or try the Orange and Chocolate Wafers.
  4. Staying home to pass out treats? You aren't alone--check out the research from the National Restaurant Association. We love some of the specials local restaurants are running to celebrate the holiday, so check them out in your town.
  5. We're big Garrett's fans, and the Pumpkin Caramel Crisp is perfect for the season.
  6. Want a little cake, instead of candy? We love the Halloween choices at Cakes Suzette.
  7. How about pancakes? IHOP is celebrating October with a trio of specials—pumpkin pancakes, All-You-Can-Eat Buttermilk pancakes and Scary Face Pancakes.
  8. Remember the old days when you bobbed for apples and had fresh donuts with apple cider? Dunkin' Donuts remembers - they've brought back the Boston Cream Donut through the end of October. Pair it with the Caramel Apple Donut and you are really celebrating! They also have Pumpkin Coffee and Lattes, or Apple Cider.
  9. Krispy Kreme is in the game, too, offering these Halloween doughnuts:
  • Jack-o-Lantern Doughnut: A pumpkin-shaped doughnut wearing a mask of orange icing and a jack-o-lantern face.
  • Chocolate Iced with Halloween Sprinkles Doughnut: a festive orange and black sprinkled doughnut.
  • Spider Web Doughnut: A chocolate-iced doughnut with Kreme® filling caught in a tasty web of white icing.
  • Pumpkin Spice Doughnut:  An old-fashioned cake doughnut made with pumpkin flavors and spices and finished with Krispy Kreme’s Original Glaze®.

    10. And, finally, get kids excited for Halloween with decorating ideas from McCormick. They recommend starting with store-bought cookies or mixes to make it easy.

  • Harvest Scarecrow Cookies: Turning sugar cookies into harvest scarecrows is a cinch with just a few ingredients you may already have in your pantry. A sugar wafer cookie creates the scarecrow’s hat and shredded wheat cereal makes picture-perfect straw hair.  For his friendly face, add candy pieces and licorice.
  • Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes: Adding a mini donut on top of a cupcake gives this goodie extra “lift” so it can masquerade as a plump autumn pumpkin. Top off with orange tinted frosting and use a small knife to create the pumpkin’s signature ridges. A green gum drop makes a bright stem.
  • Candy Corn Cupcakes: America’s favorite fall treat is recreated as a cupcake. Tint batter before baking with yellow and orange food colors.  Decorate cupcakes with frosting and candy corns for a yellow and orange treat from the inside out.
  • Black Cat Cookies: Basic cookies become cute, smiling cats. Spread cooled cookies with black colored frosting, and use chocolate wafers for the inquisitive cat’s ears. A touch of practical magic turns jelly beans, gum drops and licorice into its eyes, nose and whiskers.
