FoodChannelPro Debuts with “Leaders with Guts”
FoodChannelPRO was officially unveiled with a Special Edition that coincided with the National Restaurant Show in Chicago last month. The new beta site, targeted to professionals in the food industry, kicks off with a series of in-depth video interviews with some bona fide living legends of the foodservice industry. First up was a ten-part up-close interview with Danny Meyer, risk-taking founder of the Union Square Hospitality Group, which is home to some of New York City’s hottest and best-reviewed restaurants. This week, FoodChannelPro editor-in-chief Ellen Koteff sits down with Pizza Patrón CEO Antonio Swad, the man who launched the Dallas-based chain as THE pizza place for the Hispanic market. Swad made headlines in 2007 with his gutsy “pizza for pesos” promotion. Other upcoming “Leaders” in the series include Jeff Sinelli of Which Wich?, Phil Costner of La Madeleine, and Todd Graves of Raising Cane’s.
Dessert Trends 2010
Ready for an after-dinner treat of gooey caramel corn-topped cupcakes? That’s an example of what our Food Channel forecasters have dubbed Darwinist Desserts, one of our top ten dessert picks for the coming year. How about Candied Bacon Fudge? That’s from the trend we call the Unexpected Complement—and we’ve got the recipe for it if you dare to try it, and you really should. It’s pretty fantastic. Other highlights include the delightful French-style Macarons, “Dessert Meister” sweets made with beer, and mini desserts we have pegged as “OK, Just a Bite.” If you haven’t yet had a chance to review this provocative dessert menu of predictions, be sure to save room! There’s also a video version if you’re more in the mood to watch than read.
