Have you noticed the proliferation of chocolate fountains lately? Seems they’re springing up (splashing around?) everywhere these days.
Sure, they’ve been a fixture at wedding receptions for a few years, but now you’re seeing them at restaurants’ Sunday brunch—heck, even Golden Corral has one now. Talk about mainstream!
In fact, they’ve become so ubiquitous, we’re even starting to see ethnic variations starting to emerge.
Sephra’s Gourmet Journal blog recently spotlighted a couple new offerings. One brings in a Filipino twist. That is, topping sweet Filipino Treats called Halo-Halos, in the chocolate fountain. Halo-Halos are sweet dishes that include a base of sweet boiled beans and fruit topped with shaved ice and mixed with evaporated milk. Other ingredients can include caramelized bananas, plantains, jackfruit, flan, and tapioca. Shower that in the chocolate fountain and…wow.
The blog also suggests have a French crepe station next to the chocolate fountain. To that we’d have to say: Oo la la.
The idea of fusing chocolate fountains with ethnic cuisines seems pretty irresistible.
We can think of other international cuisines to try with chocolate fountains. Mexican churros, Italian conoli’s, German pastries . . .mmm, I better stop now before I start to gain pounds just thinking about it.
