Recently The ONION reported that the Food Network would begin broadcasting NHL sports. As with anything from The ONION, it’s a spoof that causes you to think. And to me, it’s not so far fetched.
I’ve been signing off my personal blog for the last 2 ½ years this way: ‘That’s it, from the edge of the world,’ and when you’re constantly looking at the edge of life, really, nothing seems out of the realm of possibility.
We’re living in an era of collaboration, mash-ups and unusual alliances, all in response to a changing marketplace that wants interactivity along with its news and education. ESPN has introduced made for TV movies; HBO has sports shows; why shouldn’t Food Network mix it up? That’s what we plan to do.
The new Food Channel is the ‘Gateway to All Things Food’ and we learned a long time ago that ‘all things food’ isn’t just an ingredient list. It’s also how you shop, what tools you use in preparation, the atmosphere for serving the food, and the people with whom you choose to eat. People, at least the more civilized types, don’t just eat what’s put in front of them anymore. People interact with their food and engage others with their food knowledge, sharing and learning from each other. As a venue for such interaction,
the new Food Channel should be a place you’ll want to visit on a regular basis.
Food and life are intertwined in new and different ways every day. My new food blog is dedicated to Food News From The Edge, so you’ll be seeing and I’ll be commenting on, what’s happening on the emerging fringes of life, food, and anything and everything connected to it. I promise you a view that is a little further out there than what you’ll run across in your super market, or Food Network, or ESPN.
