This exotically scented, lightly flavored rice is a delicious accompaniment to saucy vegetable, chicken, and pork dishes.
Why Try? This rice will give you ‘something different’ to serve instead of a typical rice or potato side dish. All the ingredients can be kept in the pantry, so you can make the rice whenever the mood strikes.

Foodie Byte: Don’t let the spices dissuade you – this is a delicately-flavored dish that should please the pickiest tastes. Remove the paprika from the dish to eliminate the spicy-heat. A pinch of saffron may be substituted for the turmeric for added elegance.

  1. Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed, 2 to 3 quart saucepan over medium-high heat. When oil begins to shimmer, add remaining ingredients and stir to coat for 10 seconds.
  2. Add 2 3/4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, cover, and reduce heat to low. Simmer until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed, approximately 18 minutes.
