Posted by Editor from The Food Channel®

The Food Channel® presents its Top Ten Food Trends for 2009. The list is based on research conducted by The Food Channel in conjunction with the World Thought Bank found at www.neemee.com, and the International Food Futurists™.

Is seeing the calorie count in bold type on the menu Too Much Information (TMI), or will it lead to healthier choices?

We may not like it, but this trend may lead to more healthy eating – even to menu overall. Obesity legislation was seen in 2008, including the requirement to put the calories on the menu, and there may be more to come. This may be the new diet trend of 2009 – actually understanding that reducing caloric intake is key.

This trend has a crucial impact on those with special dietary needs and allergies. Expect to see the words “gluten free” more frequently, along with more options for the diabetic. This is as much about health as it is about calories and weight.
