Beyond Fair Trade
Askinosie creates his chocolate in a way that’s literally more than fair. He pays his cacao farmers a price that is actually beyond the fair trade rate. His philosophy, learned from fellow Ozarks businessman Jack Stack, is to offer them “A Stake in the Outcome.” Askinosie travels to Ecuador and Mexico to personally meet with his farmers and to share 10 percent of the net profits from the chocolate made from the beans grown on their farms.
