Whirlpool has a concept kitchen that reflects the movement to “green.” Now, the same energy-consciousness that drives your car decision and your “paper or plastic” decision could show up in your kitchen. The company is showing a futuristic “green kitchen” in which 60% of the water and heat generated from appliances is “diverted” to fuel other appliances or functions in the kitchen. So everything you do could, potentially, provide the energy to do, well, other things. For example, the heat produced by the compressor in the refrigerator would produce hot water for the dishwasher, and the refrigerator has a “drawer” that contains the energy lost from opening the door.
“Green” is touching all aspects of our lives. Look for it soon, in a kitchen near you.
