New Yorkers Tap Into "Localvore" Movement

Tap'dNY Recycles Local Tap Water

Posted by Cari Martens from CultureWaves®

Here’s one more example of the Eat (and Drink) Local movement some have dubbed “Localvore.”

Tap’dNY is a bottled water brand that doesn’t claim that its water comes from pure, natural springs or mountain glaciers. It admits, right up front, that its water comes from the (award-winning) New York City public water system. The water is purified through a reverse osmosis process and is bottled locally, so there’s no energy wasted trucking or flying cases of water over great distances.

The company’s proposition is all about being earth friendly. In its manifesto, Tap’dNY urges consumers to drink regular tap water whenever possible; to drink locally-bottled water when tap isn’t convenient; and to refill and recycle plastic bottles.

Its marketing and advertising has what you might call a New York attitude. Bottles feature claims such as “No Glaciers Were Harmed in Making This Water.” Now that is refreshing.
