Would You Like to Write for The Food Channel?

Guidelines for Submissions

Posted by Editor from The Food Channel®

Are you a food blogger looking for some additional exposure? Or someone who loves food and wants to write the occasional review? Here are some areas where The Food Channel® will accept your submissions:

Restaurant Reviews

We like to see the mom & pop places that are frequented by the locals. You are the expert in your area, so feed us what you know. 300-600 words will tell the story, along with at least one photo. Be sure to describe several of the selections on the menu and tell us why one is your favorite. Get a quote or two from the proprietor, and tell the restaurant you are submitting this for The Food Channel.com. If you provide us with email contact information, we will send them a link when the article is published. Photos may be a head shot of you or the proprietor, a food item at the restaurant, or even the exterior of the restaurant. Be creative and get our attention.

Cookbook Reviews

What’s your favorite cookbook? Have you written a review for your own site and just want to give it more exposure? We like reviews of new and old cookbooks – just let us know if its out of print and unavailable so we can warn people they’ll have to hunt for it in antique shops or their grandmother’s collection. 300-500 words, with the name of the publisher, and your three favorite recipes. We’ll be glad to seek permissions if you’ll clue us in to what you know.

Personal Experiences Blogs

These must somehow relate to food but can be previously-published blogs as long as you have the rights to the content. Images help, as does really compelling writing. Stick to that 300-500 word mark, although we’ll edit down if that helps. See an example here.

Recipes

We like to feature tested recipes that you love. These must be recipes that you have created, modified, or gathered from friends and family over the years. We are not looking for cookbook recipes here; we want ones you make regularly and are willing to share. Photos must be a minimum of 72 dpi, high res., 300 pixels, sent as a jpg.

Video

Quality video is the key here, but we are open to using your how-to videos and anything innovative, as long as you can give us a clean embed code and something between 2-3 minutes in length.

Spend a little time on our site, get to know our style, and add to the story. Our editorial calendar is available for download, below, if you want to tie your submission to one of our planned themes.

All entries may be sent to editor@foodchannel.com. If we use your story, photo or recipe, we reserve the right to use it in FoodWire® and any other publications of The Food Channel, as well as on the site. It also gives us the right to Twitter it and increase your exposure – somehow we don’t think you’ll object to that. In fact, follow us on Twitter since we periodically ask our followers for ideas and specific submissions.

Submission is not a guarantee of publication. Writers are not eligible for compensation or reimbursement; however, a link will be provided to the site of their choice and they will be credited as the author. We reserve the right to edit content. Submission implies that you own the material and have the rights to use any wording or imagery submitted. All of the site policies of The Food Channel apply.
